Education--Associate of Arts in Teaching 8-12th Grade
--Spent 1 year at Texas State of San Marcos as a Math Major with a minor in secondary education
Experience--5 plus years tutoring college students in remedial math courses plus College Algebra
--2 plus years tutoring middle school and high school students in Algebra 1 & 2, including AP Algebra courses
When I started college, at the ripe old age of 36, I had to retake remedial math courses and when I didn’t understand something I sought out help…either by being the crazy woman in the back of the room asking question after question, in tutoring labs, YouTube videos, etc. I absolutely refused to give up, so I worked my butt off!!!
While sitting in the tutoring lab on campus one day, I saw a woman struggling with the course I had completed the previous semester and offered up help. She told me that she learned more in 10 minutes from me than she had in an entire month, and then she asked if I tutored and said she would pay me. Thus my tutoring/teaching career began…
Since then, I’ve been working with college students, middle schoolers, high schoolers, etc in algebra, as well as GED students. Just like I refused to give up when I was in school, my students don’t go home until they have an understanding of whatever it is we happen to be working on at the time. Words often heard in my tutoring sessions are, “QUESTIONS, ASK QUESTIONS!!” This comes from a philosophy of mine that says a student learns best when they actively participate in learning.
In addition to going above and beyond during one-on-one sessions with my students, I have access to hundreds of extra practice worksheets…thanks to the wonderful world of the internet. I also often take notes during sessions using an android tablet and will send those notes to my students at the end of sessions. Another thing I often do is type up steps on how to solve a particular type of problem (on my own time and free of charge…tips are graciously accepted however). I’ve learned that if a student isn’t learning, it sometimes the fault of both the teacher and the student…a teacher , by definition, is only a teacher if their students are learning.
Now, what are you waiting for?? Pick up the phone, send me an email, send up smoke signals…whatever...contact me and get on my schedule...3 hour cancellation notice on all sessions please
HobbiesDuring my free time I enjoy cooking, reading (fiction and non-fiction), cross-stitch, watching movies, and spending time with my god daughter.

Rita is an awesome tutor who really knows math and algebra. I have struggled with math all my life. I find she explains things in a way that I understand the concepts immediately. She obviously loves what she does and I highly recommend her for math and algebra tutoring.
Rita is fantastic and has helped in so many ways. She would show up to where I was located when having transportation issues. In several instances she has also providing fluctuation in her schedule to work with me. As tutor her patience with me has been great. Lately she has provided videos via email.
Rita is truly a joy to work with. She has a great sense of humor and knows the material very well. She is very good at helping you grasp difficult concepts and is very accommodating when it comes to scheduling. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable math tutor.
I absolutely LOVE Rita!! She's such a sweetheart and if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have passed my GED test!! I had to pass my GED within a month and half due to a court order and she worked with me after I had been out of high school for a LONG time. She gave me great real world examples that were easy to relate to and easy to remember during the test. Rita is amazing and I wouldn't think twice of recommending her. She will make tutoring fun, she will encourage you, and make things easy to understand. I don't know what I would have done with out her.
Rita is awesome. She is communicative and connects with our daughter in a meaningful way in a subject area that has traditionally been very unpleasant. We are grateful to Rita for the expertise and making math approachable.
Rita knows her stuff! Really has helped me with my Algebra and I will definitely continue our tutoring next year. I suck at math and she has made everything understandable. Also I get good grades now.
Ms. Rita is a super tutor for my daughter. She is great at finding out how my daughter thinks and learns. She makes math enjoyable to learn.
Great tutor! She has been helping my son (who is in 8th grade) with Algebra. His teacher noticed a marked improvement after just a couple of tutoring sessions with Rita. She has a great approach to explaining the problems. Loves math, and very enthusiastic and encouraging. She has a great the ability to put the student at ease. Rita is reliable and she truly cares. Highly recommend!
Going great so far. Flexible, attentive to our needs. Knows her stuff with creative varied approaches.
I am a 21 year old who is trying to fly helicopters for the army, before Rita my math skills were basic at best, but she has worked with me, taking me from zero to hero in the math world, while also making me laugh my butt off the entire way, without her my dream of being a pilot would be just that, a dream. and i fully recommend her to anyone at any age, with any math background. this one is a keeper yall.
Rita really helped my 8th grade daughter who was struggling with Algebra I. I especially loved how Rita had her writing out problems on the whiteboard and by the end of the sessions she could write out all the problems and she felt confident of her understanding. Rita has a great sense of humor and I appreciated her patience and her ability to make difficult material easier to understand. She is a great teacher and can really explain things so that my daughter understands.
Rita is very comfortable to be around and has set all my math fears at ease. She explains equations and formulas very easily and makes sure that I understand them. I have high testing anxiety & just took my first test last week since seeing Rita, SUCH A HUGH DIFFERENCE. She has given me great confidence and motivation. I now know that I CAN do this. Time & money well spent - Rita is fantastic!!
Rita is amazing! She has helped my 8th grader in algebra go from test stress to test success! And my daughter really enjoys working with her and has gained so much confidence. Rita really knows her math, but she is also fun and a genuinely nice person. And most importantly she really cares.
Incredible! Is only one of many words that describe Rita’s tutoring technique; she has an extensive knowledge of mathematics in which she ought to be a math professor. She also gives you confidence when doing a math problem on your own and guides you with respect and dignity. I had some trouble understanding instructors a few semesters ago and in my third attempt with a developmental class and a little research I found Rita. She will work with your schedule...be on time, don’t be late! You will leave feeling confident and knowledgeable. I truly recommend Rita if you are having issues understanding the methods of math. Plus she uses the latest technology to show you step by step instruction. Thanks to Rita I passed and will be moving on to a higher math course! I definitely recommend Rita!!!
My grandson needed help with Algebra I and consequently, he lost a half credit during the school year. After reading Rita's profile, and thinking about my grandson's learning style, I was convinced that he could possibly relate to her and hopefully establish a rapport that would enable him feel comfortable enough to ask questions and clear-up his confusions. Thankfully, Rita was able to reinforce and reteach the curriculum and practice instant recall with him. Rita improved his self-confidence and enabled him to be successful. He passed the final exam and recovered his lost credit when retested this summer.
I was never really that good at math. When I worked with Rita, she explained things to me in a way that I could understand them. She has a way of teaching, tutoring and mentoring that makes concepts clear. She is also very caring and compassionate. Rita is a fantastic tutor, and I would highly recommend her to anyone.
She helped me with a few classes and is the reason I received an A in one of them! She makes things easy to understand and is very patient with you. I highly recommend her!!
Rita is an amazing tutor and teacher. She helped me to understand basic math in away I was never able to. She is diligent and creative. I am not the easiest student but some how she found a way to get me to understand and ace my tests. I was a maybe 'D' math student in school. Rita made me an 'A'. It doesn't hurt that she is a lovely person, easy to schedule with and always on time and ready for me. If you have an opportunity to hire Rita as your tutor and get onto her schedule jump on it.
Rita is an awesome tutor. She makes you feel at ease confronting your fear of math! She is has an awesome way of teaching and I look forward to her tutoring in my next level of math. She does all her best to accomodate to your schedule. She is an effective teacher and motivator. I highly recommend her. She does make learning math fun. She is so ready to help as much as she can! She works with you until you grasp the concept of the lesson!
