Sarah S.
Private tutor in Round Rock, TX
Education
I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Alabama and had a private therapy practice for 12 years in Texas. I am also a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach. I currently have a private therapy practice, work with life coaching clients, help families with educational advocacy in the special education system, and provide tutoring for kids through adults.
Experience
In tutoring, I use a strength-based approach - focusing on the student's positive experiences and strengths, as opposed to the student's problems, weaknesses, and shortcomings. First, I identify the strengths, positive educational experiences, and talents of each student. Then, I develop an individualized plan that recognizes and builds on a student's capabilities as a way to address any current challenges. And in the process of working together, I help the student to regain (or gain for the first time) the joy of learning and to experience optimism about the future. I am available for help on a single assignment or preparation for an exam. I am most helpful, though, in situations where the student and I work together for a longer period of time. This allows me to get to know his or her strengths and develop a customized study plan.

Hobbies
I love to laugh and tend to laugh quite loudly. I love eating chocolate chip cookies, going swimming, and hanging out with my dog—though not normally all at the same time. But, more than all of that, I love helping children, teenagers, and adults reach their full potential.
